The first computer of any kind to sell a million. Commodore aimed it at ordinary shops rather than computer dealers, put William Shatner in the adverts, and undercut everything — with 5K of memory and a 22-column display that made most software a compromise. It is the machine that proved the mass market existed, and the one the C64 was built to replace a year later.
